I was blown away by how good this movie was. "A Hidden Life" premiered to immediate acclaim at the 2019 Cannes film festival where it won several prizes and Fox snapped it up for big bucks. I wanted to scream, "Be quiet. One moment I was laughing, the next crying, the next jaw-droppingly shocked, and so on.
It was very disturbing and depressing from the awful description of a seven year old being trapped in a car while her father sat decapitated in front of her, to the pregnant women being hit and killed by a bus, to the sudden and grotesque scene where one of the main characters shoots himself in the head and the camera does not pull away! Relax the film critic inside you and watch to the end Tried twice to watch this.
I loved the way all characters wound up being connected to each other and it made me feel deep within, feeling conflicted, amused, tearful, amazed , and just down right pissed at all of the deaths. I am going to watch this again,maybe 3 or more times, just so I can see if I get a different perspective.
